Mental problems... How genetic?

On my dad's side of the family they are basically all bi-polar and have had 6 suicides just in that side. My dad is also bi-polar and his mother killed herself. on the other side of my family there is a closely related relative that has long passed but was schizophrenic. I inherited both. That is a big reason that I don't want kids.
